At our studio, we do things a little differently! Most of our students, from total beginners right up to those taking the top grade ABRSM exams, learn in our Accelerated Piano Lab.
How does the Piano Lab work?
At our Piano Lab, students receive hour-long lessons, with 3-4 students attending simultaneously. Each student works independently at their own piano with the use of headphones, moving at their own pace.
What are the benefits?
Students in our Piano Lab are racing ahead with their learning, whilst having fun at the same time. Our unique format enables students to:
Build independence, stamina & concentration
Grow in self-confidence. This has been one of the most rewarding things to see as a teacher - watching students learn to trust themselves as they work out problems. Seeing them beam with pride when they realise they CAN do it is wonderful!
Feel motivated to practise at home as they are confident in WHAT they are learning & HOW to practise
Learn at a faster pace. The combination of the hour-long lessons & the unique format mean that beginner students become better note-readers much faster than they would do in traditional-style lessons. As they are encouraged to work in an independent-style they also develop a good work ethic. More advanced students have a solid foundation to allow them to tackle the complexities of harder pieces in a logical manner, and again, the hour-long format gives them plenty of time under instruction to then go home & continue their learning, having mastered any particularly difficult passages with teacher support
HAVE FUN! Piano playing does not have to be a lonely experience! In our Piano Labs, we allow time at the end of lessons for musical games, mini performances, or sometimes just a debrief, talking about what is going well in our learning, what can be improved upon, & working together to discuss aspirations & plan goals
Build a musical community! Many of our students have made new friends through our Piano Lab lessons & also our holiday courses. Building a supportive community is at the core of what we do here - learning an instrument can sometimes be challenging, & requires long-term effort. Enjoyment is key. In our Piano Labs we have fun on the journey!
